  83. I'm using right now by supplying 13.8V from the battery while running
  84. the car. But I am very careful that make sure ft530 be turned off 
  85. when trun on or off the ingnition key. I have not had any problem so far.

  107. A friend of mine has just received his rig which he had modified, he
  108. thinks, after he sent it in because the radio had caught fire while
  109. being used in a car, powered by the cigarette lighter attachment.
  110.  
  111. It is too early to tell wether the intermod problem has been cured.
  112. In a few days we will be able to tell you more. I have the same type
  113. of rig and our complaint here is with the VHF part of it. We monitor
  114. mostly 147.12 mhz and even 15 miles outside a small city of 50,000
  115. we often have to turn off the volume completely so as not to bother
  116. the folks around us. Today, with a few friends, I was walking
  117. through the woods, monitoring the local repeater 15-20 miles away,
  118. with the VHF part of the radio on (only) and I often heard all kinds
  119. of racket coming out of the radio.
  120.  
  121. To be honest, we were walking around a beaver pond, so this might
  122. explain the problem:-) Or could it be QRM coming from a satellite?
  123.  
  124. My friend had the parts you mentioned replaced, and also Q4161. The
  125. latter may have had something to do with the "fire" which melted
  126. part of the radio and the battery case.

  138. repaired.  My transceiver would be quite satisfactory if I didn't have
  139. the "intermod" problem with the UHF receiver.  My VHF receiver seems ok.
  140. ALINCO changed R419 and R472 the last time it was in for service but
  141. that didn't seem to help the "intermod" problem.

  190. this is the second effort to get an information about a special type of
  191. SMD-diode. the diodes are from the ICOM amateur-radio-department. you need
  192. the two diodes to expand the handheld transreceiver IC-W2E (it's a duobander).
  193. the modifing-description says that the type of the diodes must be MA-122 or
  194. MA-123 which cost a lot of money. 
  195. now i try to paint the diodes, so that you could better imagine:

  205. Now my questions:
  206.  1. Is this diode a double diode?

  209.      expensive ones?
  210.  4. and last but not least: is there any modifikation of the handheld to do
  211.     packet radio with 9600 baud and not 1200?

  288. pretty, scratches, cuts and dents. also a CB is mounted on topof it with 
  289. a velcro type substance. Works well, only problem is with the digitial
  290. voice that reads out the frequency <Normally you can just push the VR 
  291. button to get the full readout but you have to hold it down. <Minor problem>

  321.   Yup. Another adam-henry promoting good will and encouraging newcomers to
  322.   join our ranks.

  324.   Jason, the basic range of one of them 5 watt CB is about 1-2 miles on the
  325.   freeway if you don't get stepped  on. Lots of milage with a decent antenna
  326.   and a fairly quite surrounding. (Not likely in any large metropolitian area)

  328.   They work great for a group of people to stay in touch while going in the
  329.   same direction.. (Gasp, a convoy) We (the people I used to go on field day)
  330.   used to use them to stay in touch and remind each other of things left behind
  331.   when we went up in the mountains to go on the field day activities.

  352. A while back I picked up a Wilson WR-500 rotor at a hamfest. Does anybody have 
  353. a wiring diagram for it? It has an eight pin socket (like a tube base) on the 
  354. back of the control box and an eight pin jack on the rotor itself. It probably 
  355. wires straight through but would like to know for sure before I cross my 
  356. fingers and try it (I've wired too many U-100's from memory).  Thanks for any 
  357. help.

  469. My FT-2400H locked up because I left the radio on when I started the car.  It
  470. also locked up several times while running on Gel Cell batteries when I let the
  471. voltage drop too low.  Solution was to hold the two rest buttons (mentioned in
  472. the instructions) while pushing the power switch.  This worked even though the
  473. radio was stuck in the "on" mode.  It does erase all memories, but did unlock
  474. the CPU.  Use the "hard" reset (mechanical/electrical) only as a last resort. 
  475. But mine was not the 5200, so hope this helps.

  494. I can't always tell who said what but whoever said a dipole has a gain of
  495. 2.14db over isotropic has to remember that that is in free space. A half-
  496. wave horizontal dipole over ground has somewhere around 7dbi gain 
  497. depending on the ground. A half-wave horizontal dipole at a reasonable
  498. height has more gain than a quarter-wave  vertical. A half-wave vertical 
  499. has more gain than a quarter-wave vertical.
